A VIRTUAL QUILT SHOW – BY- GINA WILKINS

INTRODUCTION

Our featured quilter this week is Gina Wilkins, a long time member of the local Plain Lazy Quilters and resident of the Ponderosa community.  Gina became interested in quilting after a visit to a Leavenworth quilt shop.  She took lessons from Robin Walton, learning to use specific  techniques on individual squares in her first quilt,  design  her own patterns, and do hand and machine quilting.

Her association with Plain Lazy Quilters has helped her learn new techniques taught by other members and has provided opportunities for her to teach as well.   This informal and sometimes formal sharing has greatly contributed to Gina’s development as a quilter.

Gina is noted for her original designs and use of color, as well as  her choice of interesting and often unusual fabrics, such as batik.  Her favorite technique is “needle turn appliqué,” used in many of her projects.  Although her favorite quilts are made for children, Gina’s versatile talents also result in stunning table runners, bench covers, bed and lap quilts, and wall hangings.
