OUR PONDEROSA HOME IN THE CASCADE’S BEAVER VALLEY
THE WENATCHEE RIVER CABIN
1990
When I returned from a mediocre fishing season in Alaska, it didn’t take long for us to put thumbs down on what we could afford in Ponderosa and thumbs up for what we could not afford. How were we going to do this? An old idiom says it takes a village to raise a child and it took four families pooling resources to purchase one cabin.
The Tollefsons and the Olsons had been celebrating Presidents’ Day weekend for several years at the Lake Quinault Lodge. Over three hour breakfasts, we planned our day and much, much more. When we called Sue and Virg, and told them about the cabin we had found in Ponderosa, they agreed to look at it with us. We visited the cabin and said “Let’s do it.”
We were still short of enough money. Sue invited her dad, brother and sister-in-law to join us. They visited the cabin, talked it over, agreed to join in the partnership. We could now make a cash offer on the cabin and it would become ours.
Tim
Glenn Matthews provided a log for all of us to record our many happy times at the cabin.
“YEAH CABIN!! We’ve started off with a bang: that’s for sure. The Marsh Matthews family . . .The Tollefsons – . . . WE ALL CAME UP HERE TO ENJOY our newly acquired wonderful cabin; we ate tortellini, gourmet cheese fondue, . . . played Trivial Pursuit, Pictionary . . .; we had an incredible time skiing, and just being together.
Katie
“. . . The Olsons arrived with guests Tom & Susan Reynolds and Neil Lieurance for an overnight holiday visit. . . .We hiked, feasted, enjoyed a roaring fire.”
Lorelie
It’s been a fun time. Katie, Virg, and I arrived Thursday night …Tim, Lorelie & Karl arrived Friday afternoon. We had chili per Quinault President’s Day week end tradition. . . .Later Saturday we had prime rib dinner at the Katzenjammer Restaurant. . .
There are some spectacular views around here – still snow on the ground and the river is still in a hurry. This AM we were all sitting around reading. An easy crowd. Good friends. Another Fine President’s Day weekend.
Sue
“I LOVE YOU CABIN!!!”
