A VIRTUAL QUILT SHOW – BY MARY BUNNEY & JEANNE WHITLOW

MARY BUNNEY

FEATURED QUILTER

Mary is a long time member of Quilters Anonymous and  Plain Lazy Quilters.  She started quilting just before retirement, taking lessons at the Calico Basket in Edmonds from well known quilting teacher and historian Nancyann Twelker.  Mary has continued to be inspired by quilting retreats, quilt shows, and classes.   She is especially known for her themed quilts, such as the nautical one shown above and those with seasonal designs like her autumn quilts.

In addition to making quilts of different sizes, Mary has enjoyed experimenting with small practical projects such as table runners, pillows, wall hangings, large bags, and most recently microwavable bowl holders. One of the most  appreciated projects is a “quillow” made for me, with a nautical pattern on one side, and a flannel backing with pouch on the other side; quilt and pillow in one!

Mary especially enjoys working with design and fabric such as batik.  Her most humorous challenge was learning “paper piecing” in design.   She forgot to take the paper out before the quilt was finished so it still crackles and crinkles!

JEANNE WHITLOW

FEATURED QUILTER

Jeanne Whitlow is also a member of Quilters Anonymous.  She has always enjoyed sewing, and a friend suggested that she learn to quilt.   The time was not right yet because of family obligations;  as Jeanne tells it: “I knew it was all I would want to do!“  When life calmed down, she began to quilt, and still loves the entire process from start to finish.

“This past eight months of social isolation has cemented my 20 years of loving quilts and the process of making them. While I have donated or given as gifts most of my quilts, I have kept a few.

I am a traditional quilter who loves color, stars, and pinwheels.  Here are two of my keepers.”

“My flaw is keeping every little leftover piece of fabric; I have boxes of 1”- 4”  strips of fabric I can’t stand to give away.  Here are two quilts  that use many little strips and triangles left over from other quilts. I wish they had made more of dent in my leftovers!”
