ARIZONA WINTER SUNBREAK II – Text & Photos by Lorelie Olson

Several years after our first Arizona trip we returned to Tucson, this time to visit longtime friends Tom and Susan, who had just moved to a lovely home at the edge of the desert.  We could walk through the desert, listen to birdsong, hear coyotes at night, and watch quail and rabbits outside the low garden wall.

A highlight of our trip was a tour of Sabino Canyon, which was close by.  We explored by shuttle and on foot, enjoying the high country scenery and panoramic views of Tucson.

Since Susan is an artist we were treated to gallery exhibits of painting, pottery and jewelry, sculptures, rugs, and basketry.

Tom drove us to Patagonia for a taste of the “old wild west”, where we enjoyed the Southwest arts and crafts displayed throughout town and in shops.

On our way to Tubac the next day we stopped at Tumcori National Historic Park to explore the mission.

When we arrived at Tubac we began serious shopping, looking for clothing, rugs, pottery, and pewter.

During our last few days we recuperated from the sightseeing and shopping. relaxing on the sunny patio, enjoying the Southwest ambience and hospitality of our hosts!

We hope you have enjoyed our first two virtual Arizona trips.  There will be more, so “Hasta La Vista”!
