CATHY ROSS “THE MOONS YOU NEVER SEE” A Poem About Unmade Choices

A Pacific Northwest native, I have been writing poetry over 40 years.  My poems reflect a woman’s journey through the later years, with recurring themes of loss and renewal.

I have  read at many local poetry venues and am a member of Seattle Poets Table. My first book, If the Moon Came Out Only Once a Month, was published in 2012 and my current book, What the Tulips Said, was published in 2019.

Painting by Helga Jacques

It’s the moons you never see  that burn the brightest,

the hills you never climb           that loom the highest,

the words you never speak     that echo the loudest.

Promises you never made,   songs you never sang,

and truths you never told     these linger on the edges

of your days, along with         risks you never took,

roads you never walked,           and eyes you never met.

No matter your treasures,         no matter your triumphs,

they all wait for you.           wistful and pensive

like transparent flowers          that have never bloomed.
