ARIZONA WINTER SUN BREAK III – PHOENIX & TUCSON – Text & Photos By Lorelie Olson

We arrived in Phoenix on a warm sunny afternoon, greeted by garden sights and scents, a delicious taco salad, and chilled white wine.

We enjoyed an active schedule of outings, including a baseball game in Peoria (which Mariners won), a ladies’ day shopping and lunch while Tim watched Ian play softball, and another tour of the Desert Botanical Garden, which featured new exhibits, wildflowers, and a special butterfly pavilion.

Ian and Rose Ann led us to another special spring exhibit by Philip Haas: huge sculptures composed of seasonal artificial fruits, vegetables, flowers and twigs.

Our last garden stroll of the day took us on the Desert Wildflower Trail, where we viewed spring flowers, blooming cacti, and a huge blown glass sculpture.

This was a wonderful way to end  our Phoenix area touring!  Time to pack up for Tucson.

We arrived at the “Reynolds Resort” near Tucson, welcomed by a lovely spring wreath on the gate, pots of blooming geraniums, and sunny weather with temperatures in the mid-eighties.

We wanted to repeat  our favorite experiences from the previous visit, which meant a walk around Sabino Canyon, shopping at markets, happy hour specials at El Charro, and a return to the local Medicine Man Gallery.

On our last day we enjoyed a brilliant desert sunset and a perfect evening on the patio.

Thanks to our hosts in Arizona, and “Hasta la Vista” till the next trip!
