THE VILLAGE GREEN, A COUNTRY GARDEN RESORT

After one of our spring trips to the Oregon Coast, we drove south on Highway 101, then turned onto scenic back road toward Eugene.  Just south of Eugene was our destination: the gardens at Village Green Garden Resort.

ARRIVAL AT VILLAGE GREEN

After we checked in at the resort office and unpacked in our room we decided to stroll around the area nearby.  The “Bridal Garden” was especially lovely, with its gazebo and fountain. The courtyard garden featured drifts of iris and climbing roses, and the fragrance drew us closer to the rose trellis.

THE ENCHANTED GARDEN

The next morning after a hearty breakfast, we walked off a few calories by exploring several of the themed garden areas.  Our first destination was the “Enchanted Garden” which we could view through the metal sculpture “window.” The Children’s House in the distance beckoned us for a closer look; we could understand the appeal for young visitors!

ART IN THE GARDENS

The “Enchanted Garden” and paths leading to other areas featured unique sculptures formed of wood , stone, metal and pottery.  My favorite was the huge metal dragonfly!

THE MAHOGANY GARDEN

Since our country garden includes shades of burgundy in perennials, shrubs, and trees, we were especially interested in plantings inside this garden area.  We noted the unusual shapes and textures of leaves and flowers as well as the different shades of plum, pink, and brown.

THE GOLDEN GARDEN AND TWILIGHT GARDEN

The mailbox sign for the “Golden Garden” caught our eye, since we have a garden area with that name (in honor of the family Golden Retrievers) ). Although we have assorted gold, yellow, and lime plants already, we are always looking for more!

The “Twilight Garden” provided more ideas for incorporating white and silver plantings into our own country garden.

A RESTFUL WALK

On our second morning we strolled around the meadow gardens, enjoying the sun dappled iris and grassy area.  The many colorful benches on the way provided a chance to rest  and reflect on the visual treats in all the garden areas.

We came home newly energized for gardening, fresh ideas for plantings and garden art. We were already looking forward to our next garden tour, and you will be invited to join us.
