NORTH CAROLINA EXCURSIONS II – OLSONS JOIN THE BEARS IN NEW BERN Leave a Comment / JOURNEYS / By Timothy Olson We (Keith, Jerry, Lorelie, Tim) checked in at the Marriott Courtyard Inn, a perfect location on the Neuse River, next to the Union Post Park.Credits: Photos by Keith Olson & Lorelie OlsonText by Lorelie Olson THE BEARS The bears of New Bern are unique! Everywhere we saw bears who were “dressed” in various costumes and colors. Talk about “photo ops”!!! HISTORIC BUILDINGS TRYON PALACE A famous viewpoint of the palace! Tim & Jerry put themselves in the historical context. Our guide gave us a very detailed narration as she led us through the palace (but no photos allowed). We really admired the intricate brickwork and decorative touches. Perfect gardens for walking, sitting, posing & taking pictures! We walked through th fragrant brick and jasmine portal to arrive at the Parterre gardens, with formal brick paths, low clipped hedges, and statuary. We stroll from the Paterre Gardens to a very different “garden” that features native trees and shrubs. And … photos of us! A relaxing afternoon, watching assorted watercraft on the Neuse River: catamaran tour boats, powerboats, rowboats, sailboats. Early the next morning we left New Bern for home.
