PASSES CLOSED . . . POWER OUT . . . ICY ROADS . . . RECORD SNOWFALLS! The snowstorms of 1996 and 2022 provided challenges for Ponderosa residents and visitors, and we missed both of them!
BIG SNOW OF 1996
While we were in Maui for the holidays, our friends Carol and Viggo were staying in the Ponderosa guest cabin with their cat Winslow. The snow came early and quickly, prompting Carol to call us long distance with their dilemma: they were marooned by the snow, with no heat or light, and concerned about the heavy snow on all the roofs. We advised them to move into the main cabin with its big wood stove, well-supplied pantry, ample candle supply, and land line.
Our resourceful friends were hardy skiers and outdoor enthusiasts, so skiing down to Plain was no problem for them. Everyone was glad to cozy inside the house after outdoor adventures in the deep snow, and Winslow enjoyed the heat rising to his perch in the loft!
BIG SNOW OF 2022
December began with just the right amount of snow in Ponderosa, enough for Spirit to romp and chase snowballs, and neighbors to enjoy out door campfires.
While we snuggled in our comfy Everett house, by the end of the first week in January almost three feet of snow fell overnight, and residents responded in different ways.
The wind driven snow covered trees and buildings.
"WHERE IS THE CAR"???
Parked cars were transformed into big oddly shaped bumps, and had to be carefully uncovered!
As beautiful as the snow was, it posed problems for everyone. (Well, not everyone). Spirit had a fine time, and hopes you enjoyed the vicarious snow experience!

Sitting here at our breakfast table, the windows are revealing evidence of our recent snow…or as I call it…..SNOWLET!! At least I was able to snap some of the wintry mix before it DEPARTED!!! Thankfully, we did not lose power….POWER TO THE PEOPLE!!

Thank you for sharing these amazing photos. I’m glad we don’t see this kind of snow every winter.
It’s certainly been an adventure!
