Seeing old barns in daylight makes us wonder about their past and why they were abandoned. Seeing an old barn by moonlight brings us into a mysterious and almost romantic present and future. CATHY ROSS offers both views of old barns in this poem, and Lee Lageschulte presents photos of abandoned barns in Northwest Washington.
ILLUMINATED BARN
Edited down
to weathered slats,
like the bones
of a half-built house,
the old barn waits for dusk
when a light inside
shines through the cracks,
the way it does for all of us,
transforming its empty shell
into a glimmering lantern.
Our faces reflect the glow
as we stand and gaze,
the grass smells
like the hay it will
become, frogs sing
of possibilities, the moon
dances in the rafters.

Very nice
Oh my great pictures! Thanks
I always wondered what frogs were singing. I know there are tree frogs. Are there barn frogs?
