BIRDS IN OUR BACKYARD – PHOTOGRAPHER, KEITH OLSON

‘Hope’ is the thing with feathers –
That perches in the soul –
And sings the tune without the words –
And never stops – at all ….                 Emily Dickinson

“May my heart always be open to little birds who are the secrets of living”                                E. E. Cummings

“In order to see birds, it is necessary to become a part of the silence.” Robert Lynd

SO GENTLE IS THE MORN                                By John Gondolf

So Gentle Is the Morn

So gentle is the morn in spring

   as tender as the rose

whose dewdrop petals long to bring

   their beauty to expose.

The warm sunlight and fresh spring air,

the breeze is blowing in our hair.

      The warm sunlight…

         the warm sunlight

   invigorates a day so fair.

So gentle is the morn in spring

So gentle is the morn in spring

   like coos of mourning dove

while calling for his mate to bring

   exciting lilts of love.

I long to feel so young again

while strolling in the April rain;

      I long to feel…

         I long to feel

the tender notes of love’s refrain.

“On a day like this, I can’t imagine anything better that might happen in a person’s life than for them to start paying attention to birds—to become aware of this magical world that exists all around us, unnoticed by many but totally captivating for those who know its secrets.” ― Ken Kaufman

“My heart is like a singing bird.” — Christina Rossetti

Is that a sparrow?!

Or is it a wren or thrush?

I can’t really tell

– Jo

To find the universal elements enough; to find the air and the water exhilarating; to be refreshed by a morning walk or an evening saunter… to be thrilled by the stars at night; to be elated over a bird’s nest or a wildflower in spring – these are some of the rewards of the simple life.

John Burroughs

“Every bird, every tree, every flower reminds me what a blessing and privilege it is just to be alive.”                                 Marty Rubin
