“MORNING” – A poem from childhood from Patricia Hammill

I am delighted to share with you a poem sent to me by Patricia Hammill on my recent birthday. Patricia penned MORNING, her first poem, in 1956 when she was nine years old and lived in Wenatchee, Washington.

Patricia reveals in this poem what will be a theme in many  poems written during her life and published previously in the NESTER.  In addition to experiencing nature, Patricia becomes a participant in what she is expressing through her poems.

MORNING

Patricia Hammill

When ‘ere the Morning sun comes up,

And birds are on the wing,

When morning dew is on the grass,

My heart begins to sing.

I love the noontide heat,

And when evening shadows fall,

But morning is the time of day

I love best of all!
