NEW MEXICO
Discovering America from the freedom of the open road! Can’t think of a better way to experience extraordinary vistas, charming small towns, breathtaking landscapes, beautiful elevation and being border towns. Much of the population chose to live near our massive oceans, waterfalls, mountains, and the wide-open spaces! All breathtaking to enjoy! It was all there for us!!! Hurray for the U S A!!!!!
Since we had been to the Alamo, we left the Gulf Coast and Texas and continued our odyssey on to New Mexico and Arizona. The goals were Santa Fe, The Grand Canyon and Sedona. Laura had suggested taking the less-traveled route to Santa Fe on the east slope of the mountains and that was an unexpected pleasure. Narrow road leading to a small town filled with writers, artists and a gathering of motor cyclers too numerous to count. And, among the friendliest people we met.
In Santa Fe we ate at a restaurant recommended as the best Mexican food in town. The best dessert was rhubarb pie. When that seemed odd, I was told the chef was from Wisconsin.
ARIZONA
At the Grand Canyon we learned best time for photography was to be on the rim before sunrise and then just before sunset.
In the next post, Keith and Jerry Olson’s UNITED STATES ODYSSEY will continue the journey to California starting with the San Diego Wild Animal Park. Their journey will stay close to the Pacific Ocean shore with many highlights for you to enjoy along the way.
