HARBOR HOME I – ART AT HOME – By Lorelie Olson

We began buying “art” at the beginning of our marriage, for our first small house. At that time, we bought large mass-produced and affordable pieces, just to put something on bare walls. Over time we began to develop our taste and knowledge by attending art museums and galleries, and our homes and budget increased in size to accommodate the purchase of visual art that appealed to us.

You are invited to a visual art exhibit in our current home in Everett, Washington perched above the Everett Marina and Port Gardner Bay.  We will feature some of our favorite paintings, prints, photographs, and glass or tile work displayed in different areas of the house.

THE "GARDEN" ENTRY

Since this is a large room that overlooks a front garden we have grouped several colorful garden prints.

THE "HARBOR" HALLWAY

This narrow hall features photos on canvas as well as original watercolors and limited edition prints. Our family sailboat “Freyja” (as well as seiners in Tim’s past) are key subjects.

THE "MARINE VIEW" DEN

The soft grays, greens, and blues in the den provide a serene mood for these four featured prints with a sea theme.

KITCHEN AND LIVING ROOM

Except for the glass etching of “Freyja”, the kitchen has a display of iris tiles, prints, and other iris themed accessories.

The living room art includes one of my favorite pictures: an original watercolor by a local artist, Helga Jacques. Also featured are photographs by friend Terry Olmsted, and an “X-ray” picture inherited from Tim’s mother.

BEDROOM AND BATHROOMS

The soft colors in the bedroom provide a serene background for favorite original paintings, including Tim’s favorite painting “Days End” by Susan Diehl.

DAYS END

The master bath walls provide a background for some of the silk framed prints which I brought back from Hong Kong.

As you leave our tour, note the original watercolor in the downstairs guest bathroom; it was a special gift this year from friend and artist Susan Reynolds. We had long admired this painting on our visits to her Arizona home., and consider it one of our most precious pieces of art!

We hope you have enjoyed viewing some of our favorite visual arts at home!
