THE ORNAMENTS OF CHRISTMAS – By LORELIE OLSON

Each year as we decorate our trees, our ornaments remind us of the people and experiences in our lives. We think of the family members and friends who gave us many ornaments as gifts, and try to recall when and where we purchased the others. These ornaments are small symbols of our interests, travels, and family heritage, and we invite you to take a close look.

O CHRISTMAS TREE

By CATHY ROSS

We always put the lights on first

Bright colors on green boughs

Like tiny fires of hope

To banish winter darkness

Each ornament reflects them

THE ANGEL TREE

This tree displays some of the angel ornaments in my collection, which I began over sixty years ago. Most were gifts from friends and family, and several are hand made. Two of my favorites show the angels with instruments I have played: the piano and the harp. This tree greets us in the entry window.

THE MUSIC TREE

Also in the entry is our music tree, which includes ornaments that reflect our love of music, as singers and as listeners.

THE NORWEGIAN TREE

We share a Norwegian heritage that is on display at Christmas on and around our living room trees.  Karl and Michelle gave us an Advent gift of a new lit tree for assorted Nordic ornaments, and several straw ornaments for our tabletop tree.

We wish you a Merry Christmas and hope you take time to enjoy your own Christmas tree!

  1. It’s a wonderful time of the year to reminisce. I, also, love getting out the ornaments and thinking of family, friends, and Christmases past. Thanks for sharing!
