The current news is filled with opposed and irreconcilable opinions of the world as we perceive it in our lives. In A POEM FOR TWO REALITIES , Cathy considers two different views of the world. If we read it standing up, we are led to one conclusion. If we, however, stand on our heads, and read the poem from bottom up, we discover a quite different conclusion.
A POEM FOR TWO REALITIES
The world is a heartless place.
I will never believe that
kindness can overcome cruelty.
I am convinced that
hate is stronger than love.
It is not true that
people are mainly fine.
In fact,
people are mainly mean.
I will always object to those who say
there is good in everyone.
The truth is,
people tend to be more bad than good.
I don’t think
most people are inclined to be kind.
(Now start with last line and read up.)
