VISITING HOME – “SHADY GROVE” – By Lorelie Olson

REMEMBERING WHEN

Since this photo was taken in 2012 when Tim & I lived in Ponderosa, near Plain, there have been many changes in our home, “Shady Grove”. These include new residents, home improvements, mature plants and two Golden Retrievers who have replaced our former companion, Lacey.

NEW RESIDENTS

Our son Paul and daughter-in-law Toni have now lived in Ponderosa for a few years, making Shady Grove their permanent home and welcoming us on our visits there from our new home in Everett. Also welcoming us are two lovely young Golden Retrievers, Spirit and Sika.

OUR MAY VISIT

As we approached Shady Grove we noticed the fresh green of late spring plantings and the increasing size of trees that we planted many years ago.

After unloading the Forester and unpacking, we took time to  appreciate the new heat pump and display area in the living room, then walked upstairs to the new  “boat focsle” corner in the loft.

A walk around the garden gave us the opportunity to appreciate special trees, flowers and shrubs in prime bloom, such as the pink Eastern Redbud, Red Current, clusters of yellow balsam root and arnica and the magnificent “Spring Snow” crabapple.

While strolling along the paths in the garden we paused to savor views of the ground covers and the Hytte. Continuing into the fenced garden, we admired the new starts in raised beds and Toni’s new greenhouse.

In addition to meandering through the garden, we did a bit of gardening followed by resting on the front deck, listening to the fountain in the pond, and viewing the lovely “bird garden.”

We ended each day with simple suppers on the patio: Toni’s fajitas and our healthy salads. Perfect weather for conversation and lounging. It was a lovely visit and we plan to spend time there again very soon.

    Hello to Tim and Lorelei:
We have just completed a ten day loop tour (Winthrop, Sun Mountyain Lodge, Wapato Point, Chelan, Crescent Bar, Yakima and Chinook Pass) to celebrate our 65th anniversary and my 87th birthday, arriving home on Saturday afternoon. I was so pleased to see a photo of Paul and Toni. I would not have recognized him if we had met on the street. We have completed our un-packing, getting re-settled, and back into the routine of board meetings and condo business (elevator re-build andthe reserve study- a 30 year plan for the building).
When summer comes, if ever, we will do some summer things.
Keep up the good work with Nester.

    Roger
