Lee lageschulte – Photographer – “VALENTINE HEARTS, FLOWERS & GNOMES”

Gnomes are everywhere these days! Traditionally, these legendary, mythical, whimsical, small of stature creatures lived beneath the earth and had significant roles in our lives.  In our current supposedly sophisticated times, they are popular as decorative creatures on wallpaper in our houses, as funny little statues in our yards, and ubiquitous in shops, stores and malls during holiday times.  Not surprising then that gnomes should venture above the earth on Valentine’s Day.

Pictured at left is the worlds’s  “biggest garden gnome” called “Solus” in Poland. Do take note that he holds a shovel in one hand and and a red heart between his hands. Perhaps, gnomes are about much more than being mere decorations.                                Tim

You are invited to view the hearts and flowers of  Valentine’s Day! Lee’s camera draws your attention to the iconic symbols of the romantic day. The gnomes may not be iconic to Valentine’s Day but they are “hard workers” and what lovely flowers would we have in February without the gnomes to protect the gardens?

Gnomes in the garden are  symbols of good luck. And more than that, spiritually they  protect an owner’s home and garden from evil spirits entering their owner’s world. Beyond that, they are said to protect the four elements, the earth, wind, fire, and water. Who wouldn’t consider having gnomes in their gardens?

In some cultures, gnomes are often linked to fall’s harvest season and also associated with fertility and abundance. In this way, garden gnomes represent the cycle of life, growth, and abundance. We hope this Valentine’s Day gnomes will bring you good luck, warmth, happiness and pleasure,

My ancestry is Northern European and I have lived most of my 85 years unaware about those gnomes in our garden. Now I’m enlightened! Garden gnomes hold a complex and varied symbolic meaning that extends beyond their whimsical appearance. They represent good luck, protection, nature, fertility, and abundance, among other things.  Do consider adding a garden gnome to your outdoor space as a reminder of the importance of these values and the role we play in protecting and appreciating the world around us. A special thank you from Tim to Lee and Lorelie!

Happy Valentine’s Day from Lee & Roger
