President of the North American Butterfly Association
“Welcome to the wonderful world of butterflies. It’s bursting with color, filled with flowers, and packed with non-stop action. Associated with freedom, spiritual growth, and the human soul, your involvement with butterflies can improve your physical, mental and spiritual condition. Your growing attraction to butterflies will bring you to some of the most beautiful places on earth and richly reward you with a lifetime of exhilarating experiences. By focusing on butterflies – small but lavishly beautiful – you will also begin to see other small and splendid parts of nature.”
The flag in Keith’s and Jerry’s garden welcomes spring, butterflies and everyone who passes by their home. Perhaps, they pause to enjoy the butterflies fluttering among the flowers. Perhaps, they enter the garden and visit Keith, whose camera is always ready to focus on the variety of butterflies adding color and mystery to the garden.
You are invited to join Keith not only in her garden but on her visits to other destinations to take photographs of butterflies.
“Happiness is like a butterfly which, when pursued, is always beyond our grasp, but, if you will sit down quietly, may alight upon you.” Nathaniel Hawthorne
“Butterflies are nature’s angels. They remind us what a gift it is to be alive.”
Robyn Nola
“Is it possible to become friends with a butterfly?”
“It is if you first become a part of nature. You suppress your presence as a human being, stay very still, and convince yourself that you are a tree or grass or a flower. It takes time, but once the butterfly lets its guard down, you can become friends quite naturally.”
“Butterflies are but flowers that blew away one sunny day when Nature was feeling at her most inventive and fertile.”
George Sand
“Let us seek connection with nature, like the butterfly does, by nurturing our relationships with the world around us and finding solace in its wonders.”
― Lucia Matuonto
“The butterfly counts not months but moments, and has time enough.”
Rabindranath Tagore
THE NORTH AMERICAN BUTTERFLY ASSOCIATION VISION
NABA is dedicated to the conservation of wild butterflies and their habitats.
Butterflies are wildlife, and should be valued and protected as such. As pollinators they are critical to our shared environment, and as indicator species they give us early warning of environmental peril.
Butterflies are also wondrous and magical in a way that singularly captures our imaginations and connects people with nature and each other.
NABA envisions a future where wild butterflies thrive in healthy habitats, none are threatened or endangered, and all people can enjoy observing them in nature.

Love your beautiful photos! We will always remember seeing hundreds of Monarch butterflies resting in a grove of trees near Santa Barbara.
Many thanks, Cathy for your kind comments. I feel so thankful that Jerry and I can enjoy SO MUCH nature every single season. It can be somewhat of a challenge to expect the butterflies to “hold that pose”! Fortunately, they seem to zero in on our plants, so when they are noshing the nectar, the happy snaps begin!!!
