We invite you to view our scrapbook of favorite family photos featuring cats as companions for us, our resident dogs, and guests (human and animal).
OUR FIRST AGNES
After our first cat “Sam” disappeared, we adopted a lovely little tabby who became great friends with our first Labrador, Casey. We named her Agnes, (which didn’t fit her charming personality very well!) Sadly, she was struck by a car on our busy street, and we began to question ourselves as cat owners!
HUEY & OLIVER
We didn’t give up on becoming cat parents, and Agnes was followed by a series of long-lived kitties! We next adopted a tiny “tuxedo” kitten, “Huey”, and a marmalade” cat “Oliver”, shortly after Huey. They were boon companions, aways sleeping or snuggling together and sometimes playing fiercely! When they stood on two legs and jabbed at each other with a leading paw, they looked like boxers!
THE BOXING MATCH
By Lorelie Olson
Cats in their corners:
(One poised poised on his perch,
The other crouched low,
Ready to lurch)
One dressed in black,
The other in gold,
(They’re ready to fight
Like boxers bold.)
Each waits for the other
To raise a paw –
The black makes his move!
(A right to the jaw.)
The gold returns
A left to the ear
Then makes an attack
On his tail (from the rear.)
Now both cats are angry,
With ears laid back,
Each waits for the other
To next attack.
This boxing match
Is no longer just fun.
And the last round will be
When one cat has won.
(The
other
will
run.)
OUR SECOND AGNES
One day Tim brought home another tabby kitten, so we named her Agnes, too. She had been left on a mortuary doorstep in a box with other kittens, and was brought to the school where Tim taught. She proved to be smart, able to open doors and sometimes cranky as well as bossy but usually a loving cat! A real snuggler! Her name fit her perfectly!
ARTHUR
After several years of being an only cat, beloved by people, dogs, and queen of all she surveyed, Arthur, a ten- month-old rag doll invaded her territory! Life was never the same. They tolerated each other, and reluctantly shared space.
After Agnes passed, Arthur enjoyed total freedom! He was such a character: funny, clumsy, curious, and friendly to people, our dogs, and even visiting rabbits. He loved to relax with Tim indoors and out.
AMY AND NIKKI
We were greatly saddened when Arthur passed, and didn’t feel ready for another catfor a long time. Finally we adopted two rescue cats: Amy, a tortoise shell Siamese, and Nikki, a feral rag doll. They were close friends with each other and our Golden Lacey.
We thank you for viewing and joiningin our memories of these family cats! Althoughwe are no longer living with our animal companions, we cherish the pictures that remind us of them.
