A WINTER GREETING I – From Lorelie & Tim

Winter and January summon very different responses from people.  Winter people embrace the season and enjoy its beauty and the activities.  Summer people endure the cold, dark months or take flight for the sunnier southern latitudes.  January is a month for reflection and for making plans for the coming year.   We invite you to take a few minutes and appreciate these themes reflected in poetry.

THE “BIG SNOWS” IN PONDEROSA – By Lorelie Olson

While we were in Maui for the holidays, our friends Carol and Viggo were staying in the Ponderosa guest cabin with their cat Winslow. The snow came early and quickly, prompting Carol to call us long distance with their dilemma: they were marooned by the snow,  with no heat or light, and concerned about the heavy snow on all the roofs. We advised them to move into the main cabin with its big wood stove, well-supplied pantry, ample candle supply, and land line.

‘TWAS THE DAY AFTER CHRISTMAS’ – By Lorelie Olson

‘Twas the Day after Christmas and all through the house not a creature was stirring … We were all “tucked in our beds” having sweet dreams of a very special time this year. Paul, Toni, Karl and Michelle joined  us for an early “Olson Christmas” and we spent Christmas Eve and Christmas Day at Karl’s and Michelle’s for “Proebstel/Olson gatherings. Join us for for our Christmas Eve memories.

A CHRISTMAS DAY GREETING – From Lorelie & Tim Olson

On Christmas Day, we invite you to pause with us and reflect on the Christmas season and its significance in a our lives at this time of year.

For us, the season began with the decorating of our home, the trimming of the tree, and continued with the music, the stories, the traditions, the gifts that are both given and received, and the gathering of friends and family together to share memories of the past and to create new memories for the future.

We wish you a joyful Christmas Day!

OLSON FAMILY SCRAPBOOK X – JEG ER SO GLAD – AN OLSON FAMILY CHRISTMAS CARD

Near the beginning of the twentieth century, Rasmus and Engel came to America, settled down to farm and had eight children.  Since Engel and Rasmus are my grandparents, I am looking at my aunts, uncles and cousins.  How and where they lived their lives has had a direct impact on who I am today.

The Christmas season is a wonderful time to reflect upon and to be grateful to those who came before us and contributed to who we are and the way we live our lives.

THE ORNAMENTS OF CHRISTMAS – By LORELIE OLSON

Each year as we decorate our trees, our ornaments remind us of the people and experiences in our lives. We think of the family members and friends who gave us many ornaments as gifts, and try to recall when and where we purchased the others. These ornaments are small symbols of our interests, travels, and family heritage, and we invite you to take a close look.
