TWO FALL HAIKU – Poems from Maureen Mitchell –

In a recent NESTER post, Maureen published FOUR SUMMER HAIKU. You are invited to read her TWO FALL HAIKU and pause for a few minutes to discover where your imagination takes you in interpreting the haiku.
“I’ve always been attracted to this form and enjoy the mental challenge of working with the five, seven, five syllable structure. I love nature and Haiku are traditionally meant to evoke the natural world so that’s another reason I’m drawn to this form of poetry.”

AUTUMN COLOR IN A HIGH COUNTRY GARDEN

You are invited to view a colorful garden with trees and shrubs of brilliant red, rich gold, orange, and bright yellow! Many years ago Lorelie and Tim planted burning bushes, vine maples, Norwegian Sentry maples, smoke bushes, and an Eastern Redbud. These trees and shrubs contrast with dark green  of firs and pines. During late autumn, the colors seem to change each day!

“FINISHING THE UNFINISHED” By Mike Cohen

Mike Cohen returns to the NESTER with a prose piece you will find timely to the fall season.  It’s late October and the holidays and new year are only around the corner. A time, perhaps, to reflect on the past year and a project enthusiastically added to a new year’s resolution that remains unfinished and nagging at us to get it done. Might be a project like a scrapbook, a garden addition,  recipes to prepare, or a skiff to build in the garage.  There is still something there in the mess that begs to be finished.

You must read it to the end to discover a surprising solution!

I have  read at many local poetry venues and am a member of Seattle Poets Table. My first book, If the Moon Came Out Only Once

FALL FLOWERS IN FAMILY GARDENS ADD COLOR & INTEREST WITH THEIR BLOOMS & FOLIAGE

You are invited to view the Olson family gardens with their brilliant fall blooms! The term “fall color” is most often referring to the red, orange, and yellow leaves of the overstory of trees, but we can also appreciate the smaller color displays of flowers in our gardens, planters, and bouquets.

LETTERS FROM ALASKA 10 – CAROLE’S QUESTION: “HOW DO I LIVE MY LIFE?”

In Carole’s previous “Alaska Letter 9” she wrote to her sister Mary, “I’m thinking about getting my own boat, and fishing it next summer.”

With the passing of time Carole finds herself pondering whether that is such a good idea. Doesn’t each of us at one time or another ask the question that the poet Mary Oliver wrote in a poem, “Tell me, what is it you plan to do/ with your one wild and precious life?”
