FOR THE EARTH – “THE COUNTRY OF TREES” – A POEM – A PAINTING – A PHOTOGRAPH

Welcome fellow citizen of the earth! In this post I would like you to consider that in addition to humans, other inhabitants of the earth are also citizens.  For instance, TREES.  Immerse yourself for a while in Dave Wagar’s painting, Mary Oliver’s poem, and Joyce Wagar’s photographs. Contemplate that trees also live in a community where other plants and animals live in harmony with each other.     – Tim

FOR THE EARTH – REFLECTIONS ON NATURE’S BEAUTY AND SIGNIFICANCE

Welcome fellow citizen of the earth! Discover a way of valuing the earth that can change the habitual way that considers land only in economic terms.  Aldo Leopold  died in 1948. Many consider him to be the father of wildlife ecology and modern conservation.  His book, SAND COUNTY ALMANAC, remains as fresh as yesterday!  Aldo’s selected quotations together with Toni’s  photographs support an ethical and sustainable way to value the land and the sea.

“THIS RIVER” – A MEDITATION ON THE SNOQUALMIE RIVER BY DAVE OLSON

For most of us, no matter how long a life span we have lived, we desire “one more year”. In a recent visit, 95 year-old Dave made it clear he is ready for the next “adventure”. Indeed, he has lived a life filled with adventure, family, friends, and participation in the community where he lived.

He wrote the meditative poem “The River” after he and Betty moved to a home on the banks of the Snoqualmie River.  Dave experienced a special joy in living near the river.

With the changing of the seasons, the river brought him an ever changing and deepening connection to nature and the earth.

You are invited to read Dave’s meditation, THIS RIVER, and, perhaps, think about a place in your life that has special meaning for you.

DAVE WAGAR – PAINTER/POET – WINTER’S COLORS REVEAL NATURE’S TREASURES

You are invited to read Dave Wagar’s poem and view his painting from a card sent to friends in late January.  After an initial scanning of the  painting and poem, Lorelie and Tim returned to them and spent more time with them. Dave’s art moved them through its imagery and meaning. These are special and you too will appreciate and  be moved by them.

Dave has Parkinson’s and several of his senses are impaired. These works of art are personal and have meaning for all of us.
