AT HOME

My father had a saying: “Cold hands, warm heart.” On these cold days Tim and I can have warm hands as well as warm hearts if we drink our favorite hot beverages from special mugs. We invite you to join us as we sip and reminisce.

We invite you to share in more Olson family traditions, including some from past years and some recently added. We cherish special memories and restful moments to appreciate the peace and joy of the season.

Since this photo was taken in 2012 when Tim & I lived in Ponderosa, near Plain, there have been many changes in our home, “Shady Grove”. These include new residents, home improvements, mature plants and two Golden Retrievers who have replaced our former companion, Lacey. 

After a year of dealiing with permits, covenants, delays, construction, deconstruction and inspections our former garage was finally transformed into a first-floor bedroom! We call it our “Harbor Room.” This post celebrates the room’s completion!

Each December we set up our small Norwegian tree, display festive objects from Norway,

Jolly little gnomes are seen everywhere this year, tucked into shelves and windows of shops and displayed in homes decorated for the holidays. Join Lee and Roger as they explore shop displays, and tour the Olson collection of nisse at their home. All the gnomes will make you smile!!

Come with us on a leisurely stroll along our Grand Avenue neighborhood. It is high summer, and many of the traditional homes are framed by mature trees and colorful street side plantings. We hope you enjoy the variety of gardens and and twentieth century architectural house styles,  including craftsman cottages, tudor bricks,  colonial revivals and even the early “mansions” of the lumber barons.

After five months away from Ponderosa we were determined to spend a few days there to enjoy the fresh air, garden,  walks, and visits with our friends and neighbors. After  a drive over Stevens Pass in a spring snowstorm  we were greeted by Paul, Toni, and Spirit, and a garden that was free of snow!
