Welcome to the NESTER! You are invited to share in Lorelie & Tim Olson’s special memories of September visits to Cathy’s Cottage. Tim & Lorelie together with David and Cathy enjoyed many sunny, warm days in the Kitsap Peninsula area. They visited towns, gardens, restaurants and shops, but always returned to the cottage’s serene setting at the end of the day.

Welcome and thank you for returning to Wallace Island in British Columbia with us. We invite you to share in the continuing saga of this “once in a lifetime” opportunity.  Will this “magical” experience last for a “lifetime?” Do read on and we will try to satisfy your curiosity about what happened after our early experiences on Wallace Island!

Welcome and thank you for returning to Wallace Island with us. You will share in the experiences we had in the early years of this “once in a lifetime” adventure on a secluded island in British Columbia’s Gulf Islands. In many ways we were like the children – everything was new and wondrous!   

As we near the end of this summer, Lorelie shares special memories the Olson family participated in this summer. Different members experienced a visual “potpourri” of activities. Celebrations, gardens, and other activities have enhanced our enjoyment of the perfect Northwest summer weather!

During a recent gathering of  long-time friends, we shared memories of our summer experiences in British Columbia’s Gulf Islands on Wallace Island. Stories and photographs reminded us of those earlier years when we brought our young families  and friends to this private,  serene and secluded destination.

A special welcome to the Olson and Brewer relatives of Ida Brewer Olson, friends and followers of the NESTER. Ida Brewer, not Ida Olson, wife of Rev. Roy E. Olson is the focus of this post. Although she left us almost thirty years ago at age 87, many of us remember her well, grandchildren remember experiences with her and a few great-grandchildren may have heard stories about her.  But most of us remember her as Ida Olson not Ida Brewer.
An old idiom meant as a complement says, “What you see is what you get.”  With Ida Olson, the pastor’s wife, members of several Lutheran churches “saw” what they expected to “see” and not who she “was”!  Do read on . . . Meet Ida Brewer!

A special welcome to all of you! Several of you know and remember Ken Olson very well. Since stories do travel, many of you may have heard about Ken along- the-way. Very possibly for some of you, this will be an introduction to Ken Olson. Like all of us, there were many facets to his life. For this post, Ken was a man-of the- cloth, a seafarer and a naturalist. What matters is what he has to say here . . .

Ken loved to talk about all kinds of stuff and tell stories. I’m asking you to imagine having a conversation with him and listen to what he might contribute to the chat. You could be anywhere but most likely outdoors with him on a dock, at the helm of a boat, or the back end of a skiff.  Later on, you will most likely find yourself mulling over how you respond to Nature . . .
