SPIRITLIFTERS V – TRICIA & GRANDPA ROY OLSON HAVE A “DOG’S BALL” By Roy Olson
Lorelie and I brought Tricia home in September of 1964. She was the first of 9 Golden Retriever SPIRITLIFTERS in the Olson family Golden Retrievers were a relatively unknown breed then but the loving qualities and the beautiful conformation that endeared her to us would soon make the breed known for being the perfect companion dog.
Within Tricia’s first year, she became a welcomed presence in our extended family’s and friends’ homes. When Lorelie and I flew to Virginia for a vacation with Dave and Betty Olson’s family, Tricia also had a vacation with Grandpa and Grandma Olson in the Skagit Valley. SPIRITLIFTERS IV – PETS ARE MORE THAN COMPANIONS.
Our acre mountain garden never had a fence and our dogs, their friends and uninvited guests roamed free throughout the area, often where we didn’t want them to ramble and play. We decided that current very social and playful resident golden retriever Spirit needed a fence. We found it entertaining to watch the visiting dogs reason out how to find the remaining unfenced parts of the yard. Paul & Toni mentioned to Lorelie and me that some dogs were clever (mostly female) and figured out how to get in to play with Spirit. “Watch Hannah – she can find any opening in a minute or two. If there’s an opening, she will find it.”
