SAILING MEMOIR 2- “CHRISTMAS IN JULY” -By Stan Morgan

The title may be a little misleading, but let me explain . . . I was lucky enough to be born and raised in Seattle to a father and mother (actually, most of the time, my mom), who loved to sail.

The first boat I can remember was a Blanchard 33. It was built at the Blanchard Boat Works which was located on Lake Union very close to the University Bridge. It was a beautiful boat.

Now for the Christmas part. . . Every summer until 1960 we took a 9 day trip in the VARUNA to the US and Canadian San Juan Islands.

OUR EVERETT FAMILY CHRISTMAS – By Lorelie Olson – Photos by Lorelie, Melody, Wendy, and Dave

Christmas of 2022 was filled with family gatherings at Karl’s and Michelle’s home in Everett. We joined their friends, other family members and animal companions on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, then enjoyed an outing to “Lights of Christmas” at Warm Beach.

JUST “PLAIN” SNOW By Lorelie Olson + POEMS – “EARLY SNOW” By Patricia Hammill and “SNOW FLAKES” by Emily Dickinson

Snow came in early November to Plain and Ponderosa, then melted, and snowed again in late November and through most of December!

We hope you enjoy the country snow scenes and the poems by Patricia Hammill and Emily Dickinson.

We thank Maureen Mitchell, Toni & Paul Olson, and Fran Hunkins for their photographs of the snow scenes.

LEE LAGESCHULTE – PHOTOGRAPHER – HOLIDAY HARBOR LIGHTS

One of our favorite traditions in Everett is watching the Mukilteo Yacht Club Holiday boat parade in the Everett Marina. We can watch the brightly lit boats from our living room window as they slowly cruise in front of the docks below us.
Now Lee and Roger offer you a walking tour of the Edmonds marina docks  so that you too can enjoy beautifully decorated boats – a. spectacular sight at night! Now Lee and Roger offer you a walking tour of the Edmonds marina docks  so that you too can enjoy beautifully decorated boats – a. spectacular sight at night!

TIM OLSON – POET – “DO TELL ME”

I am currently reading Margaret Atwood’s  book of essays, BURNING QUESTIONS.   One essay focuses on a Polish journalist, R. Kapuscinski, who covered dangerous places and events in his career.  Despite this he continued to express optimism about the future. He wrote,  “We stand in darkness, surrounded by light.”  Although I wrote DO TELL ME in the nineteen- seventies,   the themes remain timeless!

DAVID WAGAR – PAINTER/POET – “GREEN FIRE”

A holiday greeting from Dave & Joyce Wagar
“We spent July and August on our Whidbey Island beach place this year.
One of our favorite off-beach walks is the Wilbert Trail at South Whidbey State Park, only four miles away. The trail stars a remarkable stand of old growth firs and cedars, with an abundant supporting cast of native vegetation. The scene in Dave’s painting is from a walk on a partly sunny day in July.
