LORELIE'S EVERETT GARDEN

My front garden is small,  public, and divided into sections by sidewak, parking area, and entry path. Even with these challenges I strive to create a welcoming entry for visitors and a cheerful sight for walkers.

The. border areas feature spots of early color framed by rocks, under a tree, and in pots and planter. A “WELCOME” flag, large hellebores in bloom, primroses, and assorted bulbs flank the entry path.

My pink, white and yellow primroses are reliable re-bloomers every year; the white primroses under the Japanese maple bloom all winter! I add new primroses as needed for instant color in the planter.

Since my front garden lacks space for large sweeps of color I group certain plants like azaleas, which will bloom in shades of pink and white like most of the primroses and hellebores.

Early herbs provide color and contrast, and I often buy bulb pots on sale, trim them, and plant in bare spots. In a few short weeks, my garden will look like these photos!

The Flower Festival features many ideas that I adapted to my own garden. Note the use of large rocks as “anchors for plants, and multiple groupings of hellebores, azaleas, and early spring bulbs. A garden can truly be an evolving work of art!!

  1. Lorelie Thank you for the trip to your garden and the NW Flower Show. Annual trips were a highlight of David’s and my prep for the new gardening year.
And by the way, aren’t the hellebores the most bodacious ever!! Here in front of Morning Star they are the stars of their beds.
